The Top 00:13
We climbed our way to the top of the world that night You climbed your way to the top of my friendless life You made your home in my heart and I wondered why But I'll keep you there all my life oh my heart don't fly My heart my faithful friend I don't know If I'll find one like you again And I hate to see you go Oh my heart oh heart I'll hope You come back home You found your way back to life just to find I'd died But you stuck around and you cared for my careless eyes You loved so selflessly all of the passersby I wish I gave you more now that I say goodbye
2.
Honesty 00:13
Pretty bird, I don't wanna scare you away Just sing the word, these toes'll tip another way You're pretty, bird, everyone knows, but pretty is the least of these Honest, you're honesty, makes me want to keep in your company And no I don't have a ring for spring I just wanna be around good things I hope you stick around and I don't mind if it don't feel right; people get hurt it's fine I hope you stick around, got an old soul, makin' my heart full with your beautiful mind; I hope you stick around Took a drive, and you seemed to have a good time Did my distracted mind not listen is it really that hard to find time? You said, honest dishonesty, Might have been the death of me But honestly all that I see is a bird keepin courage close at wing I just wanna hang around good things I hope you stick around and I don't mind If it don't work out; love is for more than the blind I hope you stick around, don't take flight Makin my heart light with your free heart's cry I hope you stick around Pretty bird, I don't want to scare you away

I’m not afraid to love you because I’m not afraid of pain And it’s not easy staying open But I don’t want to look away And maybe in the end I'll leave you Or we’ll have to part ways But know that either way I see that you’re Beautiful, powerful, and good I see that you’re Beautiful, powerful, and good And broken hearts couldn’t change the truth that You’re beautiful, powerful, and good I’ve started seeing how it’s pained you To always be the one to love Filling everybody’s needs With no permission to be small But being vulnerable and weak As you know Will make you more Beautiful, powerful, and good I see that you’re Beautiful, powerful, and good And broken hearts couldn’t change the truth that You’re beautiful, powerful, and good I know you And you know I can’t believe you When you turn your face away, and say you’re not Beautiful, powerful, and good I just know you’re not evil And you’re Beautiful, powerful, and good

Quirky girl, bearded guy Didn't quite go with the plan Couldn't find any match Was it fate to fail this game Brooklyn pad, Seattle van But they landed in each other’s paths Didn’t think they could catch What they have now from a distance Think I’m falling in love On the internet And when the government says I can hold her hand Maybe we’ll finally be Together in quarantine Lovers in quarantine Love is in quarantine Love is quarantine Seven years, never worked Always seemed to miss it by a month Even tried for a time But the distance made it worse Now that they’re stuck inside Wasn't hard to give it a try But will there come a time When they get to be inside together Think I’m falling in love Through the internet And when the government says I can hold her hand Maybe we’ll finally be Together in quarantine Lovers in quarantine Love is in quarantine Love is quarantine Maybe we’ll finally be Together in quarantine
5.
Egret 00:13
Like an egret, wandering wildly Oh you never sought to be seen by me You just played your part by the creek And I loved your quiet company And I don’t know what to do know what to do with one like you Oh I don’t know what to do Know what to do with one like you A cry for freedom was your anthem Until I freed you and you freed me and I heard you out and you held my hand As you helped me find out who I am And I don’t know what to do know what to do with one like you Oh I don’t know what to do Know what to do with one like you I heard thunder as in a dream And he called out come and follow me So I ventured into the sea And he asked me child what do you see And I saw two ducks floating freely In the grace that he poured out and we didn’t drown we didn’t freeze but we sung our songs so boisterously And I don’t know what to do know what to do with one like you Oh I don’t know what to do Know what to do with one like you

Everyone knew it was awkward Sharing names across a circle Wondering if we might stumble on a friend But choosing the lesser evil Cause we’re here to meet new people and terrified of loneliness we played the game We started a conversation, And I wished we could continue it, Every question made me feel more at home But I couldn’t bear an hour with you If I couldn’t be with you Mutually requited but it wasn’t fate It’s funny how it’s hard to catch any open door We always seem to miss it by a month or more And every year I’ve wondered Is it too late now? So keeping a steady distance As I lost my faith and got depressed Friendless I longed to talk with you again And movement across the country Couldn’t slow the drive within me I kept to myself until the moment came But I got let down When I read your letter, shoved my feelings down But I’m not afraid to say it now I craved your touch and missed your smile It’s funny how it’s hard to catch any open door We always seem to miss it by a month or more And every year I’ve wondered Is it too late now? But here we are Again Victims of unalignment Always barely missed and out of sync Right as your life was opened mine closed down Suddenly one day flowered Like a dormant rose on Easter Finally naming what we felt the whole damn time But did I let you down Did my letter make you anxious, Fall apart I won’t hurt you now Though I admit you’d have good reason to doubt It’s funny how it’s hard to catch any open door We always seem to miss it by a month or more And every year I’ve wondered Is it too late now? But here we are Again I’m not afraid of getting let down And we both know that it’s time now To give this a chance So would you take my hand and dance with me I’m not afraid of getting let down I’ve got my reservations and my doubts But we have questions and we need Some time to answer them It’s funny how it’s hard to catch any open door We always seem to miss it by a month or more And every year I’ve wondered Is it too late now? But here we are Here we are Here we are Again

We may say goodbye in time, For now it's just good luck For now it's just abide by your God's call Though I'm glad to be your friend And over time our hearts will mend It’s hard to not be yours and not be more in your life Is a beautiful thing and not to love is not to live at all Of our love was not in vain Cause by your love my life won’t be the same I'm a better human thanks to you and I hope that you are too and it's not just vice or virtue; Something mystical We see eye to eye on plenty of the likes that fueled our love and now I’d like to see you love what matters most in your life Is a beautiful thing and not to love is not to live it all of our love was not in vain by our love the world won't be the same The mystic love of humans is the mystery of life Is a beautiful thing and not to love is not to live at all of our love was not in vain by your love my life won’t be the same you're a beautiful soul and not to love you would be wrong of me but now it's right to let you go Cause by your love the world won't be the same

Important Note:

This album was available on Bandcamp only on June 19th 2020 - now it only exists at Patreon.com/brotherjames.

Only the cover track is available here now - all other tracks on this page are just silence, to indicate the album's existence, though it is no longer publicly available.

I.e. Please do not for this expecting to get the album - instead download it for free on patreon - once you become a patron of Brother James at Patreon.com/brotherjames.

Last month I dropped a surprise demo album because Bandcamp was giving 100% of sales to artists. Now I found out that that today only, in celebration of Juneteenth, Bandcamp is donating their share of sales to NAACP - the longest-standing civil rights organization advancing justice for Black people in America.

So I figured I’d drop another demo album, and donate my share of sales to NAACP too, so 100% of sales on Bandcamp will be going to NAACP.

(If you’d like to tip me for the album, you can join me at Patreon.com/brotherjames or toss a tip in my Venmo @justinjamessinclair)

This is a collection of songs written for or inspired by a few of my dear friends; 7 songs each representing a friend of mine. It’s unlikely I’ll record and release most of these officially - because there are just too many songs to record. But if you like any of them in particular let me know and maybe I’ll record it!

Just like last time, this is a messy collection of demo recordings from years ago that I never intended to release… so the album will only be available for 24 hours! At noon tomorrow June 20th I’ll pull it down and it will only be available on at Patreon.com/brotherjames, along with the previous demo album.

Enjoy :)
