I guess it’s been a quarter century
Since I showed up wailing no one knew my name
I thought by now I might have had it figured out
But the only thing I’m sure of is it’s all a game

I tried to fit it all into the tales they told
But the more I see the more I think I’m bound to fail
Then moments come when all my thinking fades away
And the parts of life that matter slowly show their face

Like sunsets and slow moving days
Like water our worries evaporate
And somehow they freeze into snowflakes
As we turn back to children and we learn to play

I guess that life has always been a mystery
And we all just play pretend that we know what it means
We get outraged when somebody sees it differently
When people born in different places disagree

It’s almost like we hardly share reality
And alone in boxes we've forgotten how to see
And all the while we miss our shared humanity
The ground of our existence, all that sets us free
